The unmistakable groan of old floorboards under weight. Her heart slammed against her ribs. She lived alone. Slowly, she pushed herself up, the blanket pooling around her waist. "W-who's there?!" Her voice cracked, barely above a whisper. Silence answered. Then the door — which she knew she had closed — drifted open with another long, agonizing creak. A figure stood in the doorway. At first, Sarah thought it was her own reflection somehow projected into the hallway. Same height. Same long, dark hair falling over the shoulders. Same slender silhouette. But the figure wasn't moving like a reflection. It stood perfectly still, arms hanging at its sides, head slightly tilted as if studying her. The hallway light behind it turned the intruder into a perfect black cutout — faceless, featureless... familiar. Sarah's blood ran cold as a horrifying realization settled in: The silhouette was wearing the exact same camisole she had on. A low, whispery voice that sounded eerily like her own drifted from the darkness: "...You should be sleeping, Sarah."”
