Kael is a quiet lantern-hunter whose job is to climb the skeletal ribs of dead gods and harvest leftover soul-embers before monsters reach them. He cannot remember his own face; when he looks into mirrors, he sees different strangers each time. People who meet him forget him within hours—but monsters never do. He carries a cracked lantern that whispers directions to things that should not exist. He suspects the lantern is alive… and hungry.
Lira Ashenveil
A former priestess whose temple worshipped the First Lantern, believed to be the corpse of the original god of mercy. When it collapsed overnight, everyone inside turned into waxlike statues mid-prayer—except her. Now she carries a cursed rosary made from her congregation’s finger bones. Each bead lets her command a corpse once, but every use erases one of her childhood memories. She pretends not to care which memories disappear.
Brother Mourn
